Park deed doesn’t clarify league’s status

The deed to Edgewood Park includes a clause requiring a city vote approve any other use of the grounds than a park, legal documents show.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean the Miracle League project can’t be categorized by that description.
The provision, which mandates “the aforesaid property be used by said City exclusively as a public park perpetually, unless otherwise authorized by a majority vote” is at the heart of concerns among some Edgewood subdivision residents about the loss of green space in the park.
But City Attorney John H. “Bubber” White said his question was how Exchange Club baseball games fit under the “park” category if Miracle League games wouldn’t, and said he was going over the deed before advising the city.
City Administrator Jim Storer and local Miracle League director Ronnie Wilkinson both said Wednesday they expect a groundbreaking ceremony for the Miracle League scheduled for Monday to go forward.
Storer also said the city was working to address any legal issues.
Plans for the ceremony, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park, include a “children’s fun day” with activities and a jumper.
