Iron Horse profits to benefit downtown

Posted: 02/14/08 - 12:15:58 pm CST

McComb’s Iron Horse Festival, which drew more than 12,000 people last year, earned a record profit, says Brooke LeBlanc, McComb Main Street Association director.
As a result, plans are to put some of the profits from this year’s event into the downtown area, offering matching grants to property owners to spruce up their properties.

LeBlanc, in her second year as chairman of the Iron Horse Festival, spoke to the McComb Rotary Club Wednesday, outlining plans for this year’s festival, scheduled for April 26.

It will follow a similar format as last year’s, she said, including a craft fair, games, talent contests, fireworks an a concert, featuring the country music group Restless Heart.

LeBlanc is asking civic groups to accept specific assignments in helping with the event. Rotarians are being asked to man the information booth.

" This should prove to Zack Patterson that advertising in local newspaper, local radio stations and other local news media is the RIGHT thing to do when promoting local events. I believe the Iron Horse Festival went over much better than the Bo Diddley Ceremony, because there was a directive by Zack not to use local media. The only thing I saw about the Bo Diddley was the news coverage by the E-J. Keep up the good Iron Horse festivals. Just one note to the city of McComb, Why have a wonderful stage, like the one downtown and have a 25 foot barrier with weeds and bushes 5 ft tall. Most entertainers want to be much closer to their crowds to enter-act. Make the barrier about 3 ft wide and about the same hieght as the stage. "
