Annette Maloch Norris

Annette Maloch Norris, 68, of McComb, died Jan. 6, 2008, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 tonight at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb. Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. Saturday at New Heights Baptist Church in Summit until services there at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Rick Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Pike Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Norris was born March 11, 1939, in Jackson. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Eugene Maloch Sr. and the late Bettie Lee Kimbrell Maloch.
She was a devoted homemaker, mother and active member of New Heights Baptist Church. She was a retired secretary for the Cooperative Extension Service in Greensburg, La.

Mrs. Norris graduated from Central High School in Jackson in 1958. During that time, she met her eventual husband Joe on a blind date arranged by their best friends, Sam and Virginia White. She loved spending time with her grandchildren in the Acadiana region of Louisiana and took every opportunity to travel.

She loved taking and cataloging home movies long before the trend became popular, building an extensive library of home movies of her children and family. A devout Christian, Mrs. Norris served as a volunteer teacher for various Sunday schools, vacation Bible schools and other outreach events.

Her family having roots in Ireland, she had a great love of Irish culture, its landscape and its people.
As a young girl she studied piano and voice and loved singing throughout her life. Her greatest love and adoration centered on her husband Joe and on her children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed baking for the holidays and lived for the Christmas season.

Mrs. Norris’ family said she will be remembered for her great love of animals, her constant devotion to her faith and family. “She was the epitome of a Southern lady, gentile and strong, always gracious, always thankful. She will be missed sorely.”

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Joseph D. Norris Sr. of McComb; a daughter, Robyn Jenean Norris Matthis of Lafayette, La.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph D. “Jay” Norris Jr. of Boston, and Daniel E. and Tonya Danielle Norris of McComb; a sister, Betty Jean Fuller and her husband Hughey of Bossier City, La.; a brother, Dr. Clarence Eugene “Buddy” Maloch and his wife Carol of Port St. Lucy, Fla.; three grandchildren, Spring Noel Guy Davis, Thomas Eugene “Chip” Guy III and Victoria Lindsey Neely, all of Lafayette; and four great-grandchildren Savannah Rose Davis, Jacob Lee Davis, Timothy Joseph Guy and Keegan Elijah Neely, all of Lafayette.


Jerry Buckley

Jerry Buckley, 72, of New Orleans and formerly of Osyka, died Jan. 7, 2008, at his residence.

Arrangements are incomplete with Cook’s Enterprise Funeral Home in McComb in charge.




Betty Martin Lambert

Betty Martin Lambert, 75, of Summit, died Jan. 9, 2008, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb until memorial services there at 3 p.m. The Rev. Karen Koons will officiate.

Mrs. Lambert was born July 11, 1932, in Vicksburg, the youngest of three children of Doris Eugenia Wall Martin and William Walton Martin.

She attended the University of Alabama and University of Alaska after serving in the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s. While in the Air Force she married Airman James W. Lambert Jr. on May 1, 1953. They were stationed in Alabama, Florida, Alaska, Nebraska and North Dakota. In 1976, they retired to McComb to be close to family, and she worked as a legal secretary in Magnolia for nearly 20 years.

Mrs. Lambert’s first loves were camping and fishing. She loved sharing the outdoors with her family. While in Alaska, she wrote a feature article “Camping With Kids” for Alaska Magazine. She was a survivor of the 1964 Alaskan earthquake. Later in life, she became an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.

Her family said, “She was a devoted wife and mother and held her friends and neighbors dear. She will be deeply missed.”

Mrs. Lambert was preceded in death by her parents and oldest brother, Billy Martin.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, James W. Lambert Jr.; two daughters, Pamela Lambert of Denver and Patricia Woodward of Jackson; two sons and daughters-in-law, James M. and Michelle Lambert of Denver and David and Vidal Lambert of Jackson; five grandchildren, Jacob Woodward and wife Amy of Madison, and Kayla, Taryn and Colton Woodward of Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Owen Woodward and Dylan Woodward; her brother, Robert Martin and his wife Donnie of Albuquerque, N.M.; and David Woodward of Jackson.

Memorials in her name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.




Luna Nelson Neal

Luna Nelson Neal, 99, of Monticello, died Jan. 9, 2008, at Lawrence County Nursing Home.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 tonight at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Monticello.

Mrs. Neal was born May 16, 1908, in Lawrence County to Issac Nelson and Emily Iona Catt Nelson.

She was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Mrs. Neal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Leonard Neal; two infant daughters, five brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Maggie Lou Wilson of Monticello and Emily Sue Vickers of Mammoth, Ark.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.




Eva Nell Keene Lambright

Eva Nell Keene Lambright, 77, of Brookhaven, died Jan. 10, 2008, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Prospect Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lambright was born July 12, 1930, in Pike County to Estus and Minnie Keene.

She was a graduate of Johnston Station High School. She was retired from the Brookhaven Public School System. Mrs. Lambright continued to give back to the community by being a faithful volunteer at King’s Daughters Medical Center. A dedicated member of New Prospect Baptist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher for 38 years, a member of the church choir, and was often asked to sing special music during the worship services. She also enjoyed painting and traveling.

Mrs. Lambright was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, George M. Lambright; her parents; one son, David S. Lambright; and one sister, Maxine Torrix.

Survivors include one son, George E. Lambright of Brookhaven; one daughter and her husband, Lucy and Matt Shell of Brookhaven; three grandchildren, George M. Lambright, Scott Lambright and Katherine Shell, all of Brookhaven; four great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Nelson and Charlsie Keene of McComb; and one sister and brother-in-law, Delilah and G.R. Travis of Raymond.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.




Hugh Vernon Strong

Hugh Vernon Strong, 82, of Silver Creek, died Jan. 10, 2008, at Lawrence County Hospital.

Visitation is 5 to 9 tonight at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Hepzibeh Baptist Church Cemetery in Silver Creek.

Mr. Strong was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Simpson County to Vernon and Mittie Stringer Strong.

He was a retired truck driver and a member of Oakvale Baptist Church.

Mr. Strong was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Evans Strong; three sons, Terry Strong of Silver Creek, Dale Smith of Patterson and Michael Smith of Ponchatoula, La.; two daughters, Bobby Smith of Magee and Kathy Culpepper of Bay Springs; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.




Ralph E. Kalusche Sr.

Ralph E. Kalusche Sr., 79, of Wichita Falls, Texas, died Jan. 06, 2008.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 8, at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home. Services were 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Hoa Nguyen officiating. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park.

Mr. Kalusche was born Oct. 8, 1928, in McComb to William John and Nina Whittington Kalusche.

He graduated from McComb High School in 1947 and earned his bachelor of science degree in business administration from Mississippi Southern College in 1952, where he was a member of Delta Sigma Pi.

He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952-54 during the Korean War, then in the Army Reserve until 1960. He served in the Civil Service as a master instructor for avionic electronics for 30 years, retiring in 1984.

He married the love of his life, Patricia Hawkins, on May 19, 1956, and they had four children. He was a Catholic and a member of American Legion Post 169.

Mr. Kalusche was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; his parents; two brothers, Louis and Hilton Kalusche; and a sister, Katherine Frizell.

Survivors include his four children and their spouses, Marguerite and Kevin Peck of Tempe, Ariz., Ralph Kalusche Jr. of Wichita Falls, Nina and Everett Wilson of Roscoe, Texas, and Mary and Sam Hancock of Canadian, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and two beloved nephews, Hilton Kalusche Jr. and Mike Kalusche.




David Lonell Cryer

David Lonell Cryer, 46, of New Orleans, died Dec. 29, 2007, at his residence.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Peoples Undertaking Co. in McComb, with the Rev. Zedric Washington officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Church Cemetery.

Mr. Cryer was born Oct. 28, 1960, to Deedely and Henretta Cryer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Annie Cryer; and a brother, Edward Cryer.

Survivors include a devoted friend, Freddie Wilson of Osyka; five daughters, Davin Davis, Dioniesha Davis, D’Mia Robertson, Canbria Robertson and Monie Floyd, all of New Orleans; four sons, David Robertson, Durnell Robertson, Dwayne Floyd and David Davis, all of New Orleans; five sisters, Annette Smith-Jones of McComb, Dianne Humphey of New Orleans, Carrie Hencly of Seattle, Janet Smith of Osyka and Evelyn Encalade of Reserve, La.; seven brothers, Henry Smith, Milton, Charles, Lloyd and Barry Cryer, all of New Orleans, and Carl and Jessie Cryer, both of Seattle; one aunt, Jeffery Robinson of McComb; one uncle, Charley Cryer of Chicago; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.




David Lee Smith

David Lee Smith, 28, of Tampa, Fla., died there Dec. 26, 2007.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb and will continue at 11 a.m. Saturday at Silver Creek Baptist Church until services there at 1 p.m. The Rev. Jimmy T. Smith Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born April 26, 1979, in Sherman, Texas. He was the son of Jimmy E. Smith Sr. and Patricia Evans Smith of the Silver Creek community in Pike County.

He was of the Baptist faith and a former employee of the Enterprise-Journal, where he worked in the circulation department.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hosie and Lola Smith, and D.C. and Donna Evans; an aunt, Eddie Regina Williams; and one nephew, Zachary Landon.

Survivors include his parents; four brothers, Jimmy E. Smith Jr., Hosea W. Smith and Jeffery Smith, all of Slidell, La., and Walter D. Landon of Willmar, Minn.; five sisters, Mary Ann Silcio of Slidell, Donna Sapp of Millen, Ga., Carol Cato of Alabama, Natalie Ortiz of Chadron, Neb., and Wanona Smith of Tylertown; one aunt, Nettie Albritton of Summit; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy E. Smith Jr., Hosea Smith, Jeffery Smith, Walter Landon, Josh Smith and Blake Baughman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Gammon and Mike Deckleman.
